I suppose they couldn’t get away with doing something big and public like this in the US because far too many people take Christmas too seriously. These people need to be reminded that the Christmas tree was originally a pagan custom anyway and that American commercial culture has unfortunately already replaced it’s religious symbolism with Dollar Almighty, despite Dr. Seuss and the Grinch’s best efforts.
